NDC should dread my leadership-NPP Western Regional Secretary-elect Kwasi Bonzo

Newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Western Regional Secretary, Hon. Kwasi Bonzo, has warned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to brace for a more energised and strategically organised NPP under his leadership.

Hon. Bonzo Kay, said his administration will focus on strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, improving internal coordination and revitalising the NPP’s electoral machinery across the Western Region.

He made the declaration after securing victory in the keenly contested Western Regional Secretary election.

Mr. Bonzo polled 211 votes to defeat the incumbent Regional Secretary, Okatakyie Amankwaa Afrifa, who obtained 157 votes, giving him a winning margin of 54 votes.

Mr Bonzo is a four-time parliamentary candidate for the Ellembelle Constituency, giving him considerable experience in constituency-level politics and electoral mobilisation.

He also previously served as the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, a role that further deepened his involvement in the party’s organisational and grassroots activities.

Speaking after his victory, Hon. Bonzo expressed confidence that the NPP can reclaim parliamentary seats currently held by the NDC if the party succeeds in rebuilding its grassroots structures and adopting a more coordinated approach to mobilisation.

“The NDC should dread my leadership because I am coming to re-energise the NPP base and ensure that we win back more parliamentary seats in the Western Region,” he said.

His declaration sets an assertive tone for his incoming tenure, with grassroots mobilisation and electoral preparedness expected to feature prominently on his agenda.

Mr Bonzo’s election has consequently raised expectations among NPP supporters, who are looking to the new regional leadership to strengthen party unity, improve grassroots engagement and position the party for a stronger showing in future elections.

As Regional Secretary, he will play a central role in coordinating the party’s regional activities, facilitating communication between the regional and constituency structures and supporting the implementation of the NPP’s political programmes.

His 54-vote victory margin also gives him a clear mandate as he prepares to assume the position and begin implementing his vision for the party.

The immediate challenge, however, will be translating his campaign pledges into measurable organisational gains, particularly at the constituency and grassroots levels.

Mr Bonzo’s tenure will therefore be closely watched as he seeks to transform his extensive experience in frontline constituency politics into a broader regional political strategy.

His election has already injected fresh energy into the NPP’s Western Regional leadership, with supporters hopeful that his administration can help reposition the party and strengthen its competitiveness ahead of the next electoral contest.
