NDC Chairman Suspends Campaign Tour Amid Parliamentary Power Struggle

A major change in power in Parliament has caused National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia to unexpectedly halt his campaign tour in the Bono Region. The suspension occurs as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC are engaged in a heated struggle for control of the legislative chamber’s majority.

Before the crucial impending presidential and legislative elections, Asiedu Nketia, a seasoned politician, had been aggressively campaigning in the area to garner support for the NDC’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama. He urged Bono voters to back both Mahama and the NDC parliamentary candidates in an attempt to strengthen the party’s base and forward Mahama’s vision for national development.

The NDC Chairman, however, decided to shorten his tour due to the current events in Parliament, where both political parties have made claims to the majority. Speaking to supporters at a community engagement in the Banda constituency’s Banda Ahenkro, Asiedu Nketia underlined the need to confront the issue that is developing in Accra immediately.

However, the ongoing developments in Parliament, where both political factions have staked claims to the Majority, prompted the NDC Chairman to cut his tour short. Addressing supporters during a community engagement at Banda Ahenkro in the Banda constituency, Asiedu Nketia expressed the urgency of addressing the unfolding crisis in Accra.

“We cannot ignore the critical issues unfolding in Parliament. Our focus must shift to addressing these pressing matters,” he remarked, underscoring the NDC’s commitment to defending their position in Parliament.

As the NDC and NPP get ready to make their claims to the majority, Parliament is expected to have a difficult session. The opposition party has temporarily halted its campaign operations due to this power struggle in order to concentrate on the situation’s political and legal consequences.

Regardless of the possible Supreme Court ruling, the NDC is fighting to preserve its legislative standing, and the suspension of Asiedu Nketia’s trip underscores the high stakes involved.
