National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern Regional Director of Elections Dr. Arnold Mashud has promised that Saturday’s Tamale Central Constituency primary will be open, legitimate, and equitable.
A recent helicopter disaster claimed the lives of eight persons, including the current Member of Parliament, Alhaji Murtala Muhammad, necessitating the by-election.
Dr. Mashud stated the NDC is dedicated to establishing a new benchmark for election administration in an interview with Charles Owusu Kumi on Channel One Newsroom.
“We as a party, we’re very ready to reset how the electioneering process and election management is done. So we are very ready to ensure we have a free, fair, credible election which will set the tone for a very formidable and united NDC in the Northern region,” he said.
Three women will be among the twelve candidates who will compete in the primaries at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Maximum security throughout the voting process has been promised by the Northern Regional Police Command.
Regional Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, said about 400 personnel will be deployed to the stadium to maintain law and order before, during, and after the exercise.
