MTN FA Cup winners Nations FC have been drawn against Malian side FC Diarra in the preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup following Thursday’s draw conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Abrankese-based club will be making its first-ever appearance in a CAF inter-club competition after securing qualification by winning the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup.

Nations FC booked their place on the continental stage after defeating Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup final at the University of Ghana Stadium to claim their maiden major trophy.

They will now lock horns with FC Diarra in a two-legged preliminary round tie as they seek to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Should the Ghanaian outfit eliminate the Malian side, they will face either Niger’s AS Zam or Togo’s ASKO de Kara in the second preliminary round for a place in the group stage.

Nations FC will be aiming to make an immediate impression on the continental scene despite their lack of CAF competition experience. The club enjoyed a memorable FA Cup campaign, overcoming several opponents on their way to lifting the trophy and earning the right to represent Ghana in Africa.

The first-leg matches of the preliminary round are scheduled to be played between September 4 and 6, with the return fixtures set for September 11 to 13.

The winners will progress to the second preliminary round, where the first legs will take place from October 16 to 18 before the return matches are played between October 23 and 25.

Nations FC will be hoping to become the latest Ghanaian club to reach the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup as they prepare for what promises to be a historic continental journey.
