A new National Ambulance Service (NAS) governing board has been formally established by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who has also named Dr. George Kojo Owusu as the new CEO of the organization. This 13-member board is the second to be formed since NAS was founded.
Speaking at the Accra event, Mr. Akandoh said he was hopeful the board will give NAS management a lot of support.
“It is my fervent hope that the board would provide all the necessary support to the management of NAS to work together efficiently and effectively to improve the emergency care services in the country,” he stated.
During his acceptance speech, Dr. Owusu expressed gratitude to Minister Akandoh and President John Mahama for their trust in him and the board.
Saving lives and offering top-notch pre-hospital emergency care are the two main goals of the National Ambulance Service.
Under the leadership of immediate past CEO Dr. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah, the service expanded from just seven stations in three regions in 2004 to 297 stations across all 275 constituencies by the end of 2020.
