NAPO officially resigns as Minister for Energy

The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has resigned.

Following his announcement as Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate in 2024, he resigned.

With effect from July 18, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accepted Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation from the Energy Ministry.

This choice enables Dr. Opoku Prempeh to devote all of his attention to his new position as running mate for Dr. Bawumia.

President Akufo-Addo thanked Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his committed service to Ghana in a statement released by the Presidency’s Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin.

“His tenure as Minister for Education and as Minister for Energy has been marked by a stellar record of accomplishments and significant contributions to the education and energy sectors.

“In light of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s resignation, President Akufo-Addo has asked the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo, to exercise Cabinet oversight responsibility over the Ministry of Energy.
