NAIMOS Expands Anti-Galamsey Operations to Asante Akyim Districts; Arrests Suspects and Destroys Equipment

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Squad (NAIMOS) has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining activities, extending its operations to the Asante Akyim districts in the Ashanti Region.

The latest swoop, carried out earlier this week, led to the arrest of several suspected illegal miners and the confiscation of multiple heavy-duty machines, including excavators, water pumps, and changfans. The seized items were subsequently destroyed on-site to prevent their reuse.

Officials from NAIMOS say the move forms part of the government’s ongoing nationwide campaign to reclaim degraded lands and protect vital water bodies severely affected by galamsey operations.

The task force, working in collaboration with local security agencies and traditional leaders, targeted notorious illegal mining zones across Asante Akyim, dismantling several makeshift mining sites in the process.

A NAIMOS spokesperson reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to enforcing anti-galamsey laws, warning that all arrested individuals will face full legal prosecution.

Many residents have welcomed the exercise, describing it as a timely intervention to save their environment from further destruction.

NAIMOS has assured the public that its operations will continue across the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country until illegal mining activities are completely eradicated.
