The father of late Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong, Nana Frimpong, has broken his silence over the circumstances surrounding his son’s tragic death, making a series of grave allegations that have sent ripples through Ghana’s football fraternity.
Dominic Frimpong reportedly died in a tragic incident while the Berekum Chelsea contingent was returning home following their Ghana Premier League encounter against FC Samartex 1996 in Samreboi.
The incident occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo Region, where the team’s journey was reportedly disrupted by the incident that ultimately claimed the life of the young footballer.
However, Nana Frimpong has disputed the circumstances surrounding his son’s death, insisting that Dominic was not shot and questioning the narrative surrounding the incident.
“My son was not shot; I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body,” he told Fakye TV.
In an even more disturbing allegation, the bereaved father claimed that his son may have been deliberately sacrificed amid Berekum Chelsea’s battle to preserve their Ghana Premier League status.
“I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation,” he alleged.
Nana Frimpong subsequently issued an emphatic warning to parents whose children aspire to pursue professional football, urging them to exercise extreme caution before considering Berekum Chelsea as a destination for their sons.
“Even if they offer you GH₵30 billion, don’t allow your son to go and play for Berekum Chelsea. They will kill him,” he stated.
The extraordinary allegations have introduced another layer of complexity to an already tragic episode and are likely to heighten public interest in the circumstances surrounding Dominic’s death.
Nevertheless, Nana Frimpong’s assertions remain unsubstantiated allegations at this stage and should not be construed as established facts. The precise cause of Dominic’s death, as well as the events leading to it, can only be conclusively determined through the findings of the relevant medical, police and investigative authorities.
