Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to build processing facilities in every district where growing a particular crop gives a competitive edge.
This is a component of his overall strategy to improve the nation’s agriculture.
According to the NPP flagbearer, the goal is to support the district agricultural mechanisation facilities that will be set up so that farmers can have access to mechanised farming equipment.
Speaking to stakeholders on Monday, November 4, the first day of his Ashanti Region tour, Dr. Bawumia promised that his government would prioritise agriculture.
“The number one priority of my government will be agriculture, the reason is that the majority of Ghanaians are farmers. Over 60% of the population are farmers, so if farmers are financially stable, Ghana will also prosper.
“I want to support farmers with finances, technologies, irrigation and expertise. Just like we did in the area of Planting for Food and Jobs, we want to continue in that regard. We will assist farmers who are into competitive crop cultivation with a processing facility.”
As part of his nationwide constituency-specific tours, Dr. Bawumia, who is currently in his final area, highlighted the Ashanti region’s significance to the NPP’s electoral triumph.
During his visit to the Ashanti Region’s mining town of Atwima Mponua, he described mining plans.
“We will help miners to mine in a responsible manner. We will let the Geological Survey detect where the gold is located through their map so that they [miners] don’t try and error. We will license mining as well so that you are not harrassed to stop work, but will mine responsibly.”
