MTN Ghana hosts bloggers for crucial dialogue on AI, cybersecurity and data

MTN Ghana has convened bloggers, digital journalists and content creators for a crucial dialogue on artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, social media safety and data connectivity as the telecommunications giant deepens its engagement with Ghana’s burgeoning new media community.

The second edition of the MTN Ghana Bloggers Forum, organised in partnership with the New Media Association of Ghana (NMAG), was held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the MTN House in Accra.

The engagement formed part of activities commemorating MTN Ghana’s 30th anniversary and brought together practitioners from across the country’s rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

The forum provided an avenue for participants to interrogate some of the technological developments and operational challenges reshaping contemporary content creation and digital journalism.

Artificial intelligence (AI) emerged as one of the principal areas of discussion, with participants receiving insights into the growing application of AI tools in content creation and digital journalism.

The engagement highlighted the potential of AI to improve productivity, streamline workflows and assist digital media practitioners in their daily operations.

Participants were, however, encouraged to approach the technology responsibly, particularly in an industry where accuracy, originality, credibility and ethical content production remain indispensable.

The discussions reinforced the need for practitioners to utilise emerging technologies as complementary tools without compromising the integrity of information disseminated to the public.

Cybersecurity was another critical subject explored during the forum, with bloggers and content creators urged to adopt stronger measures to protect their digital assets.

The session highlighted the risks associated with unsecured social media accounts and other digital platforms, while encouraging practitioners to remain vigilant against cyber threats and unauthorised access.

With a substantial proportion of new media operations conducted online, participants were reminded of the necessity of strengthening their digital security practices.

The forum also examined the indispensable role of reliable and affordable internet connectivity in the work of digital media practitioners.

For bloggers and content creators who routinely cover events from various locations, dependable data connectivity is integral to their ability to publish breaking news, livestream events and upload photographs and videos in real time.

The discussions therefore highlighted the importance of connectivity solutions capable of responding to the growing demands of Ghana’s expanding digital media ecosystem.

Speaking at the forum, MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer (CCSSO), Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, emphasised the importance of sustained engagement between MTN Ghana and members of the new media community.

She noted that the digital media space continues to evolve, making collaboration with bloggers and content creators increasingly important to MTN Ghana’s efforts to reach and engage audiences across the country.

The forum also created an opportunity for practitioners to interact directly with MTN Ghana representatives, ask questions and share concerns regarding telecommunications services and challenges confronting the digital media industry.

President of the New Media Association of Ghana (NMAG) and founder of Nkonkonsa.com, Eugene Osafo-Nkansah, expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for its continued support and engagement with members of the association.

He appealed to MTN Ghana to consider introducing a special data package for bloggers and verified new media practitioners, citing data as an indispensable working tool for professionals in the digital publishing space.

According to him, the increasing reliance on multimedia content has made data consumption an unavoidable component of the work of bloggers and other digital media professionals.

He suggested that a dedicated package could help alleviate some of the data-related challenges confronting practitioners and enable them to operate more efficiently, particularly when covering live events and breaking news.

The forum further explored potential areas of collaboration between MTN Ghana, new media practitioners and event organisers, particularly regarding connectivity at major events.

The discussions reflected the increasingly intertwined relationship between telecommunications infrastructure and digital journalism, where stable internet access has become essential to the instantaneous transmission of news and multimedia content.

The engagement ultimately offered practitioners a platform to exchange ideas, raise concerns and gain insights into technologies that are reshaping the digital media profession.

The second edition of the Bloggers Forum concluded with MTN Ghana rewarding lucky participants with prizes, including a mobile phone, shopping vouchers and airtime.

The forum forms part of MTN Ghana’s broader engagement with the media and digital ecosystem as the company commemorates three decades of operations in Ghana.
