The total value of transactions in Ghana’s mobile money ecosystem reached GHC365.0 billion in April 2025, the highest monthly value to date.
The Bank of Ghana’s most current economic and financial statistics shows this milestone, which represents a 3.8% increase from GHC351.7 billion in March and highlights the revolutionary effect of recent policy reforms.
The elimination of the electronic transfer levy, or “e-levy,” by the Mahama administration has greatly decreased transaction costs and restored customer trust in mobile financial services, which is a major factor in this increase.
The value and number of mobile money transactions have significantly increased as a result of the regulation change, which seems to have eliminated a significant usage barrier.
Mobile money transactions increased from 764 million in March to 778 million in April. This consistent rise supports mobile money’s growing contribution to financial inclusion and cross-sector payment simplification.
The convenience provided by mobile-based platforms, an ever-expanding agent network, and rising mobile phone usage all contribute to the upward trend.
Given Ghana’s continuous digital transformation and the favorable regulatory framework, analysts predict that the trend will continue.
