Mobile money transactions hit GH¢649.2bn in only 2 months of 2025

In the first two months of 2025, the total value of mobile money transactions rose to GH¢649.2 billion.

This was an increase of 64.68% from the previous year.

The expected total value of mobile money transactions in the first two months of 2024 was GH¢394.2 billion.

The Bank of Ghana reports that in January 2025, mobile money transactions totaled GH¢333 billion.

In February 2025, however, it dropped to GH¢316.2 billion.

This is true even if the new government eliminated the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) last week.

Analysts predict that mobile money transactions will increase even further, supporting the financial technology industry.

In the meantime, there were 74.1 million registered mobile money accounts overall, up from 66.9 million during the same time in 2024.

However, it was believed that there were 411,000 active agents, compared to 896,000 registered agents.

The overall value of mobile money transactions reached a record GH¢3.0192 trillion in 2024, representing an increase of almost 57.90% annually.
