Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, this week represented the country at the U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Forum held in Washington-D.C. The high-level event, hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, brought together government officials, industry leaders, and international partners to explore investment opportunities and collaboration in the critical minerals value chain across Africa.
The forum focused on strengthening partnerships between the United States and African nations to ensure sustainable, transparent, and mutually beneficial development of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and manganese — resources that are vital for clean energy technologies and global economic growth.
In his address, Hon. Buah highlighted Ghana’s commitment to building a responsible and transparent mining sector that supports industrialisation, job creation, and environmental sustainability. He emphasized the government’s efforts to position Ghana as a leading hub for critical minerals investment through improved policy frameworks, value addition, and local participation.
“Ghana is committed to developing its mineral resources in a manner that benefits our people and contributes to global supply chain resilience,” Hon. Buah stated. “We welcome partnerships that align with our vision for sustainable mining and local value creation.”
The event provided a platform for Ghana to showcase its potential in critical minerals development and to engage with key U.S. and African stakeholders on strategic partnerships. Discussions also covered financing mechanisms, technological cooperation, and regulatory reforms to promote responsible sourcing.
The U.S.–Africa Critical Minerals Forum forms part of broader efforts by the U.S. government and private sector to deepen economic ties with Africa and secure diversified sources of critical minerals essential for clean energy transitions.
Ghana’s participation underscores the country’s growing role in shaping Africa’s mining future and its commitment to leveraging natural resources for sustainable national development.
