President John Dramani Mahama has introduced changes to his government, nominating two Members of Parliament for ministerial appointments while reassigning two ministers to new portfolios.
The changes were announced in a statement from the Presidency dated Friday, August 7, 2026, and are subject to the constitutionally mandated parliamentary approval process.
In accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, President Mahama has submitted the names of the nominees to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.
Zanator nominated for Environment Ministry
The President has nominated Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, MP, as Minister of Environment, Science and Technology.
The Klottey Korle legislator is expected to oversee a ministry at the centre of the government’s environmental protection, scientific research and technological development agenda, subject to approval by Parliament.
Also nominated is Mahama Ayariga, MP, who has been named as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The ministry plays a pivotal role in Ghana’s decentralisation process, local governance, chieftaincy administration and engagement with religious institutions.
Two ministers reassigned
Aside from the new nominations, President Mahama has reassigned two ministers to different portfolios.
Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned to the Ministry of Defence.
He will now be responsible for matters concerning Ghana’s defence policy and the administration of the country’s defence establishment.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ibrahim, MP, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
His new assignment places him in charge of sectors with significant implications for infrastructure development, housing delivery and access to water resources.
The latest changes come as President Mahama continues to fine-tune his administration and position key officials in portfolios aligned with his government’s development priorities.

The nominees will now go through the parliamentary approval process before they can formally assume their respective positions.
