Following the price increase on April 1, 2024, the Passport Office has discovered that Ghanaians are not applying for passports as frequently as they once did.
In spite of the fact that some passport applicants, agents, and other stakeholders fiercely opposed this directive, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration clarified in a statement that the decision to raise passport fees is in line with the 2023 fees regulations, L.I.2481.
Paul Cudjoe, the Director of the Passport agency Headquarters, said in an interview with Channel One News that while this is a concern, it won’t have a big impact as long as his agency carries out its job.
Naturally, there will be a slowdown because we haven’t raised the cost of passports in a while, and we had to close the difference. The additional fees were instituted because, had we not raised the price, we would not have been able to print passports at all.
“I think all the regions we’ve gone to, it’s a concern but not too much a major [concern] if only the passport office delivers on their mandate.” He said.
