Lands Minister Condemns Vicious Attack on Anti-Galamsey Taskforce in Ahafo Region

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has strongly condemned a vicious attack targeting personnel of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the Ahafo Region.

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, issued a statement today, Monday, 3rd November 2025, confirming and unequivocally condemning the incident, which took place on Saturday, 1st November 2025, during an operation at Bronikrom near Hwediem.

The statement noted that the Minister, having been “adequately briefed on the matter,” strongly condemned the attack on the team tasked with fighting illegal mining, commonly known as ‘galamsey’. The nature and extent of any injuries or damage sustained by the NAIMOS personnel were not detailed in the official release.

Swift and Rigorous Investigations Ordered

In response to the “unfortunate circumstances,” Minister Buah immediately held high-level meetings with key state officials. The Ministry confirmed that discussions have taken place with the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to ensure the “conduct of swift and rigorous investigations” into the matter.

The government underscored that this decisive response is in line with its unwavering commitment to protecting the environment and bringing to justice all individuals involved.

”This is in line with government’s commitment to bring to book all perpetrators who aid, support, or front the continuous decimation of the environment,” the statement affirmed.

The attack highlights the significant risks faced by personnel on the frontlines of the national effort to curb illegal mining activities and safeguard Ghana’s vital land and water resources. The government appears resolute in its decision to press ahead with the anti-galamsey campaign despite the dangers.

The statement was signed by Paa Kwesi Schandorf, the Media Relations Officer for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
