KNUST student who allegedly murdered girlfriend remanded again

Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been placed under detention for the second time by the court due to his suspected participation in the death of his girlfriend, Joana Deladem Yabani.

On February 27, 2025, Yabani’s dead body was found on the KNUST campus. After a fight, CCTV footage purportedly showed a man—possibly Tuffour—strangling her to death. Hours after the event, Tuffour was taken into custody and made his court appearance before being placed under remand.

The prosecutor told the judge at his second court appearance that the case docket had been sent to the Attorney General’s office for review.

Because of this, the prosecution asked the court to keep the suspect in detention, and the court agreed. It is anticipated that the Attorney General’s recommendation will be available by April 1, 2025, when the case has been postponed.
