Keep your campaign away from Zongo Communities – Youth group tells Ken Agyapong

-

A Muslim advocacy group called the Zongo Youth Movement has strongly advised Kennedy Agyapong, the flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to stay away of Zongo and Muslim communities during his campaign due to contentious statements made by one of his campaign staff members.

Calling for a formal apology to the Muslim community and Ghanaians in general, the group emphasizes that political campaigns should not jeopardize religious coexistence or national unity.

This is because Dr. Stephen Amoah, also known as Sticka, allegedly said that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Islamic beliefs was the reason the NPP lost the 2024 elections.

Abdullai Ali, the Zongo Youth Movement’s public relations officer, told Citi News that the comments were divisive and went against Ghana’s tradition of religious tolerance. He insisted that Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Amoah provide a public apology.

“It is not unfair to associate these remarks with Kennedy Agyapong’s camp. After the comments were made, no one from his team came forward to disown or condemn them. In fact, some members defended the claim on TV and radio using misleading data,” he stated.

Ali added that a clear dissociation by Agyapong from Dr. Amoah’s comments would have shifted accountability. “If Kennedy Agyapong had issued a statement distancing himself from the remarks, we would have focused only on Dr. Amoah. But the silence from his camp speaks volumes.”
