Kasoa: Four dead after storey building collapses on them at New Market

Four persons have reportedly died after a storey building collapsed on them at New Market, a suburb of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

The victims, a carpenter, and three other vocational school students, all female, were all under the building when the incident occurred.

Nana Akwesi, an eyewitness, tells Onua News’ Nana Yaw Asare, that there were workers on the sec ond floor of the uncompleted structure filling concrete when the incident occurred.

The three young ladies, he explains, were assisting the workers with some errands on the site whilst the carpenter had descended to the ground floor to pick an item when the building collapsed.

He explained the workers have had an altercation with one of their colleagues who left the place and got replaced. His replacement, he added, went home to get a pair of safety boots for one of his colleagues and saw the building coming down upon return from the house.

The carpenter died on the spot whilst the three ladies died on the way to the hospital.

“We all came to witness a fight here and when the guy came, they told him he was late and attempted fighting him so he left and they replaced him with another person. So he climbed up and realised one of his colleague’s boots were not safe so he went home to bring him a new one and on his return saw the building coming down.

“We saw three girls under the building and their condition weren’t good when we discovered them under the debris. But the carpenter had passed away. The carpenter was up so he came down to pick something when the building collapsed,” he explained.
