Justice Blay, a former midfielder for Asante Kotoko, has officially apologized to the team and its fans after criticism of remarks he made about his time with the squad.
In the past, the 30-year-old had accused some of his former teammates of smoking and even claimed that one of them had taken his girlfriend. These accusations caused some Kotoko fraternity members to get outraged.
Blay apologized for the comments and acknowledged the damage his words may have caused in a statement issued through his JBLAY Foundation.
“Upon reflection, I recognise that my words may have caused disappointment or offense to the club, my former teammates, the passionate supporters, and specific individuals whose names were mentioned,” he stated.
Blay went on to offer an “unreserved and sincere” apology to everyone affiliated with Asante Kotoko—management, technical staff, players, and fans—insisting that it was never his intention to tarnish the image of the club or anyone associated with it.
“Asante Kotoko holds a special place in my heart and has played an instrumental role in my growth and career as a professional footballer,” he noted. “The platform and support I received during my time with the club will always be appreciated and cherished.”
The former Medeama SC player also accepted full responsibility for his conduct, considering how crucial it is to be professional and emotionally in control, especially when in the spotlight.
“This experience has served as a powerful reminder of the values of emotional discipline, humility, and maturity, on and off the pitch,” he added.
Blay concluded by extending his best wishes to Asante Kotoko, expressing hope for the club’s continued success in all its future endeavours.
