John Mahama Signs Landmark Health Security Agreement with Africa CDC

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a significant step toward strengthening Ghana’s health security infrastructure through a new partnership with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mahama revealed he held a productive meeting with Dr. John Nkengasong, Director General of Africa CDC, and his team from the African Union, to discuss health preparedness and pandemic surveillance strategies in Ghana and across West Africa.

A key highlight of the meeting was the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ghana and the Africa CDC, focused on data sharing and cross-border epidemic surveillance. According to Mahama, the agreement will “significantly enhance our epidemic intelligence capabilities,” positioning the country to better detect and respond to future health threats.

“Ghana is committed to learning from past experiences and preparing for future health challenges,” President John Dramani Mahama stated. “We appreciate the Africa CDC’s invaluable support over the years.”

He also acknowledged the contribution of Dr. Jean Kaseya, who underscored the importance of African nations building self-reliance in healthcare systems. Mahama expressed optimism about the collaboration, describing it as a collective effort towards “a healthier and more resilient future for Ghana and the continent.”

The meeting comes at a time when global attention remains focused on pandemic preparedness, data-driven health systems, and continental self-sufficiency in public health.

The development has been met with widespread support on social media, with many highlighting it as another testament to Mahama’s commitment to improving national and regional healthcare delivery.
