Jean Mensa to appear before Parliament over Ablekuma North election dispute

-

This week, Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, is scheduled to address parliamentarians about the disputed parliamentary election in the Ablekuma North Constituency.

A dispute about the compilation of results from certain polling places has kept the constituency without a member of parliament since the general elections on December 7. Constituent representation in the assembly has been hindered by the problem for more than six months.

On June 4, the Minority Caucus publicly requested that the Ghana Police Service provide sufficient protection so that the Electoral Commission could securely and openly finish the recollection process.

The Committee of the Whole in Parliament will get a briefing from Jean Mensa regarding the progress made in breaking the impasse thus far.

It is anticipated that lawmakers would want to know exactly when the EC will complete the collation and announce the vote’s result.
