The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted Inspector Hance Atubra to the rank of Chief Inspector following his courageous intervention during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

Inspector Atubra, who is stationed at the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters, was recognised for his bravery and swift response in helping rescue residents and prevent possible loss of lives during the incident.

The fire broke out at the Aboso Main Lorry Station on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, and engulfed several shops in the busy area.

The incident caused extensive damage to property and posed a serious threat to traders, residents and commuters who were in the vicinity.

Inspector Atubra was reportedly among the first police officers to arrive at the scene and immediately joined efforts to evacuate people from areas threatened by the flames.

Despite the obvious danger, he moved into affected sections of the area, assisting people in distress and directing them to safer locations.

His swift intervention and willingness to put his own safety at risk contributed significantly to the evacuation exercise and helped prevent what could have been a much more devastating tragedy.

Residents and eyewitnesses subsequently praised the officer for his courage, composure and dedication to protecting lives during the emergency.

Following an assessment of his actions, Inspector Atubra was recommended for recognition for his exceptional bravery and commitment to duty.

On Monday, August 31, 2026, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno invited Inspector Atubra to the National Police Headquarters in Accra, where he personally decorated him with his new rank of Chief Inspector.

The promotion is seen as a fitting recognition of Inspector Atubra’s selfless service and exemplary conduct in the face of danger.

His actions during the Aboso fire highlight the importance of courage, quick decision-making and dedication to duty in protecting lives and ensuring public safety.

Chief Inspector Hance Atubra’s intervention has also earned him admiration from residents and serves as an inspiring example of professionalism within the Ghana Police Service.
