Videos of interviews with Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) presidential candidate Akua Donkor during her lifetime have been making the rounds online hours after her death.
She discussed her health situation in an interview with Zionfelix TV, which is one of these videos.
Given her age and health, she responded in the positive when the interviewer asked if she could handle the tediousness that comes with the President’s job.
She said that there was someone to take her place in the unlikely event that she passed away.
“I have been experiencing health challenges for the past 10 years but I am still alive. Even if I die today, my running mate will take over from me,” she said in the interview published by Zionfelix TV on October 12, 2024.
Akua Donkor, 72, died on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Ridge Hospital in Accra.
Akua Donkor, who started her political career as an Ashanti Region Assemblywoman representing Hemang, is well-known for making people laugh with her remarks and speeches.
She made a name for herself in politics by running for president several times and exhibiting incredible fortitude in the face of financial difficulties.
She satisfied the Electoral Commission’s eligibility requirements and was included in the 2020 election, despite the failure of her first effort in 2012 as an independent candidate and her second attempt in 2016.
Akua Donkor had been promising programs like duty-free port services for the passage of goods, free education, better compensation for farmers, and free vehicles for journalists with just 39 days until the 2024 election.
Her recent appointment of Roman Fada, Daddy Lumba’s manager and an Atinka FM broadcaster, as her running mate was the high point of her 2024 presidential campaign.
Following the death of Akua Donkor, Roman Fada stated in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM that no decision has been made regarding the party’s involvement in the general election in 2024.
