Former President John Mahama has thanked God for all of the blessings that have come his way since he was re-elected. God’s direction during his campaign and the renewed opportunity to serve again have been appreciated by the president-elect.
During a victory speech at his campaign office on Monday night, he focused on Psalm 23:5 and expressed his joy at his decisive win.
“The results of this election by the Electoral Commission show that NDC with me, John Dramani Mahama as the leader, just chalked one of the most emphatic victories in the history of Ghana.
“Let me begin by thanking God, the creator of the universe for protecting and preserving us through this whole campaign period. I also give thanks to God for preparing a table before me in the presence of my enemies,” he said.
Mr. Mahama also expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming support. According to the Electoral Commission (EC), Mahama won with 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55% of the total. With 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61% of the total, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the former president’s principal rival, was defeated.
Furthermore, the NDC has proclaimed victory in more than 160 seats, giving them a majority in parliament.
