The Ghana Police Service detained a ride-hailing driver on Sunday, August 18, 2024, for reportedly shooting a male adult at Koans Estate near Kuntunse in Accra. The driver was later revealed to be an off-duty police officer.
Following an alleged altercation over a disputed transit fare between the dead, Stanley Ahadzi, and General Constable Smith Gyeke, the incident happened on Sunday morning at around four in the morning.
While the suspect is being held by police as part of the incident investigation, the deceased’s body has been placed in the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The family has been allocated other policemen and a police professional psychologist to help them through this tough time.
“Once again, we would like to assure the public, especially the family, that justice will be served,” the police said in a statement.
