On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, South Korean authorities discovered the body of a Ghanaian businessman who was attending a Korea-Africa Summit-related event in his hotel room.
The man, a 50-year-old company official, was found early on Tuesday in a hotel in Seoul’s Gangnam neighborhood.
As reported by Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, police found no signs of foul play and suspected the cause of death might be due to illness.
The businessman had travelled to Seoul for a business counselling event held in conjunction with the Korea-Africa Summit.
Trade, technology, and investment were the main topics of discussion throughout the two-day conference. Officials from South Korea underlined that deepening connections in minerals and resources will improve the robustness of the nation’s supply chains in vital sectors like batteries.
South Korea intends to increase the amount of Official Development Assistance (ODA) it provides to Africa to about $10 billion by 2030 in order to foster greater collaboration with the continent.
