HOLY STARS: Coach Gazale Takes Responsibility After Defeat to Accra Lions

Basake Holy Stars head coach, Abdullai Gazale, has taken full responsibility for his side’s disappointing 2-1 loss to Accra Lions in a match that began with promise but ended in frustration for the visitors.

The Nzema side got off to a bright start, taking the lead through their in-form forward Prince Tweneboah, who confidently converted a penalty. However, the momentum shifted quickly as Accra Lions responded with urgency and capitalized on defensive lapses to score twice and complete a spirited comeback.

Despite the strong opening, Holy Stars struggled to maintain their intensity and gradually lost control of the game. After the final whistle, Coach Gazale addressed the media with honesty and composure, admitting that his tactical decisions fell short on the day. He acknowledged that his team lacked the structure and response needed to withstand Accra Lions’ pressure, and accepted full accountability as the head of the technical team.

Gazale noted that his side’s energy and urgency dipped significantly after taking the lead, and their failure to adapt tactically allowed the home team to seize control and punish them. He emphasized that the defeat wasn’t down to individual errors but rather a collective shortfall that requires reflection and correction.

He assured fans that a thorough review will be conducted, particularly focusing on issues in the midfield and defensive areas. With a crucial mid-week outstanding fixture approaching against Vision FC at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain, Coach Gazale is determined to regroup, lift team morale, and steer the squad back to winning ways.

Despite the defeat, there were some positives, including the early attacking drive and the calm execution of the penalty by Prince Tweneboah. Coach Gazale remains optimistic that with the right mindset and tactical improvements, Holy Stars can bounce back stronger. The team’s immediate focus now is on refining strategies, tightening the defense, and preparing mentally for a match that could reignite their Ghana Premier League campaign.
