Ho West MP Secures 100 Russian Scholarships To Empower Constituents

-

Member of Parliament for Ho West Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has made a daring move toward educational justice and global opportunity by securing 100 foreign scholarships for students in his constituency to study in Russia.

Announced on July 15, 2025, during the 10th Ho West Basic Schools Annual Quiz Competition (BaSAQ-C), the program aims to build a human resource base for the district that is led by science and technology.

“I traveled to Russia about a month ago and have been able to secure about a hundred scholarships for the Ho West District. Those who want to do a PhD, those who want to do a Master’s, those who even want to do a first degree,” Bedzrah disclosed during a media interaction.

The scholarship initiative builds on the success of Ho West Basic Schools Annual Quiz Competition (BaSAQ-C), a decade-old academic competition that has nurtured hundreds of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

According to Bedzrah, the Russian scholarships are a logical continuation of the tradition of many former participants who are currently pursuing postsecondary education in technical subjects.

The MP declared the establishment of a Scholarship Secretariat at the Ho West District Assembly, which will oversee the application and selection procedures in order to guarantee openness and local ownership. Make that the recipients are eligible as genuine Ho West natives, and offer them assistance and orientation before to their departure.

Engineering and applied sciences, information technology and cybersecurity, medical and health sciences, environmental studies, and renewable energy are among the fields that will be given priority for the scholarships because they are essential to Ghana’s development.

Bedzrah stressed that the objective is to develop a pool of qualified professionals who would return to help reform the district, not only to send kids overseas.

“Education is my priority. Every aspect — motivation, logistics, infrastructure – I want to leave a legacy so that when I am no longer there, people can point out that Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah brought education up in Ho West,” he affirmed.

The program is in line with Russia’s larger goal of deepening its educational partnership with Ghana. The Russian government has raised the number of scholarships available to Ghanaian students in recent years, especially in the fields of engineering and medical.

The action is a part of a bilateral endeavor to strengthen relations by means of technical training and intellectual exchange.

Education advocates and civil society organizations have praised Bedzrah’s accomplishment, viewing it as an example of MP-led development that invests in human capital in addition to infrastructure.

Among his accomplishments are In Ho West, more than 77 educational infrastructure projects support for scholarships for health professionals, Motorbikes for circuit supervisors and medical equipment donations to the district health directorate totaling GHS70,000 Students throughout Ho West are optimistic that this chance will lead to local change and global education as the scholarship program is ready to debut.
