Alhaji Seidu Abagre, a 79-year-old retired educationist standing trial over allegations of unlawfully holding himself out as a chief in Bawku, has been granted bail by the High Court in Accra.
The court admitted Alhaji Abagre to bail in the sum of GH¢100,000, supported by two sureties, following a successful application by his legal team.
As part of the bail conditions, the accused is required to report to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) twice weekly, specifically on Mondays and Thursdays. He has also been restrained from travelling outside the court’s jurisdiction and expressly warned not to present himself, or allow himself to be presented, as a traditional leader.
In a further directive, the court ordered the prosecution to ensure that Alhaji Abagre receives appropriate medical attention, acknowledging concerns raised about his health.
Alhaji Abagre is facing multiple charges, including provocation of riot, offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace, and fighting with weapons.
The matter has been adjourned to March 23, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
