Heath GoldFields Limited has announced the appointment of Ing. Abdul Karim, PE, CMRP as its new Engineering Manager, underscoring the company’s dedication to operational excellence, innovation, and sustainable mining practices at the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.
Ing. Karim joins Heath GoldFields from Newmont Corporation, where he served as Regional Manager, Control Systems and Instrumentation – Africa. In that capacity, he led automation and process control optimization initiatives across several mine sites within the region.
With over 20 years of experience in the mining industry, Ing. Karim brings exceptional technical expertise in asset management, process automation, and electrical and instrumentation systems. His career includes key roles at AngloGold Ashanti, Asanko Gold Mine, and Newmont Corporation, where he contributed to major capital and modernization projects.
Among his notable achievements are his contributions to the 5 Mtpa process plant expansion at Asanko Gold Mine and the control system virtualization program at Newmont Ahafo South, both of which set new standards for reliability and efficiency in Ghana’s mining sector.
Earlier in his career, at Obuasi Mine, he led crucial automation and control system upgrades for shaft and winder infrastructure—experience that gives him strong underground engineering credentials. This expertise aligns seamlessly with Heath GoldFields’ mission to modernize and optimize underground operations through innovation, automation, and engineering excellence.
