Hearts of Oak were held to a pulsating goalless draw by league debutants Hohoe United in their opening Ghana Premier League fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians enjoyed most of the possession and created several chances, but the visitors defended well and showed resilience, especially after being reduced to ten men in the 67th minute when Solomon Adomako was sent off.
Hohoe United, coached by Abdul Rahim Bashiru, approached the game with discipline and determination. Bashiru, a former Hearts of Oak assistant coach, motivated his players to remain compact and organized, and their defensive strategy paid off. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Hohoe stood firm and denied the hosts a winning start.
For Hearts of Oak, head coach Mas-Ud “Didi” Dramani set out to begin the campaign strongly after a fourth-place finish last season. His side pressed high and tried to unlock Hohoe’s back line but lacked the cutting edge in the final third. The frustration grew as the minutes ticked away, and by the final whistle, the Accra club had to settle for a point.
The result marks a historic moment for Hohoe United, who secured their first-ever Premier League point against one of Ghana’s biggest clubs. For Hearts, it is another slow start to a league campaign, and they will be under intense pressure to respond quickly in their next outing.
