Government Orders Immediate Recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports

The Office of the President has directed the immediate recall of all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration. This directive was formally communicated to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President.

The recall is part of the government’s efforts to regulate the proper use and administration of official travel documents in line with both national and international standards. The move is aimed at preventing misuse, safeguarding Ghana’s international reputation, and maintaining the integrity of the country’s diplomatic engagements.

Key Measures for the Recall

To ensure a smooth and effective recall process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to take the following steps:

1. Issue a Public Notice: Notify all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration to return these documents to the Ministry for verification and potential re-issuance.

2. Set a Compliance Deadline: All affected individuals must comply with this directive by January 24, 2025.

3. Conduct Verification: A thorough review will be undertaken to ensure that all returned passports meet the current eligibility requirements for issuance.

The government believes this exercise will significantly contribute to enhancing the credibility and efficiency of Ghana’s passport system.

The Office of the President has encouraged full cooperation from the Ministry and passport holders to ensure a swift and effective execution of this directive. For further clarification or assistance, the Ministry has been advised to engage directly with the President’s office.
