Following two years of severe difficulty, Ghana’s economy is currently seeing a strong recovery, according to the country’s finance minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.
At a UK Town Hall gathering on Saturday, Dr. Adam declared, “This year our economy is going to surprise the whole world.”
“I can tell you that this economy is rebounding strongly. We are rebounding strongly, and it is surprising the world even the IMF, the World Bank. They are all surprised. Last year, they projected our economy will grow at 1.5%, we grew at 2.9%. This year in the first quarter of this year, they projected we will grow at 3.1% we grew at 4.7%.”
“This economy will grow, and it will grow faster than everybody thinks,” he stated.
He also revealed that GH¢1.5 billion has been ordered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to be released to consumers impacted by the banking sector cleanup by the Ministry of Finance.
Dr. Adam stated that mistakes were made in this instance and that individuals were misinformed, even if he agreed that the government shouldn’t be held responsible for its investment choices.
He said that the effects of the clean-up had caused certain people to suffer terribly, and some to even lose their lives.
