Renowned author and journalist from Ghana, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has made a startling claim regarding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo: had he never assumed office, Ghana’s history would have regarded him with greater reverence.

“The President Ghana Never Had,” Manasseh’s most recent book, offers a critical analysis of the President’s term beginning in 2017.

Manasseh voiced his dissatisfaction with the President’s performance in an interview with The Point of View on Channel One TV. He claimed that the President would have deserved respect if he had not taken office or had died before taking office.

President Akufo-Addo, in Manasseh’s opinion, wasted an opportunity to lead Ghana with vision and change the country’s destiny.

He also voiced worries that after seven years of the President’s leadership, Ghanaians were left feeling let down by his conduct, which did not live up to his pre-election promises.

“If Akufo-Addo had died without becoming President, I personally would have respected him more than he being President. His place in history would have been bigger than he becoming our President. But we would have said look, this is a visionary leader who would have transformed Ghana, unfortunately, we didn’t get him.

“Fortunately or unfortunately, we got him, but we did not get him, because the Akufo-Addo some of us expected, was not the president Akufo-Addo, we got when he became a President. So, either way, he’s the President that Ghana never got.”

He revealed that although he had cheered President Akufo-Addo’s election and voted for him, he had been dissatisfied with his administration.

“In 2016, a lot had happened and the question was if Ghanaians were still going ahead and doing this. [retain Mahama]. Then what is the point in risking my life, when this is what they want? So, when Akufo-Addo was announced as President, I celebrated it as if it was as if I had won,” Manasseh disclosed.
