Widespread rumors that Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has died have been refuted by the Ghana Police Service, which called them harsh and untrue.
The IGP is “alive and well and going about his duties as expected,” according to a statement released by the Service on Sunday. Police officers, families, and the public were cautioned to ignore any circulating claims that said otherwise.
The Service denounced those responsible for the rumors and cautioned that disseminating false information is illegal in Ghana, especially when it comes to delicate issues involving national security leadership.
It further emphasized that the culprits will be found and brought to justice. The public was urged by the police to refrain from participating in misleading stories that could cause worry and erode confidence in state institutions.
