The Ghana Police Service has arrested 26 individuals for brandishing and indiscriminately firing toy guns in a public area. This action, deemed disruptive and a threat to public peace, forms part of ongoing police efforts to address such rising incidents across parts of the country.
According to a statement released by the Police, the suspects are currently assisting with investigations and will soon be arraigned before the court to face justice. As part of the operation, several toy guns were confiscated from the individuals involved.
The authorities expressed concern over the increasing trend of such behavior, warning that it poses significant risks to public safety. Police special operations are actively pursuing others believed to be involved in similar activities.
In their statement, the Police reminded the youth that brandishing toy guns in public constitutes an offense under Section 207 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29), which addresses conduct likely to breach the peace.
“We caution the youth to desist from this act as it constitutes the offense of offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace,” the statement read.
The Police also assured the public of their commitment to maintaining peace and order, urging citizens to cooperate in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
