The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially introduced minimum monthly salaries for players in the Ghana Premier League (GPL), Division One League (DOL), and Women’s Premier League (WPL) as part of its efforts to improve player welfare and enhance professionalism in the local game.
This landmark decision follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the GFA and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) ahead of the Association’s recent Congress. The agreement seeks to standardise player contracts and ensure fair compensation across all professional divisions.
Earlier, the GFA and PFAG collaborated to implement a standard player contract template that has already been adopted by Premier League clubs. Building on this progress, further consultations with clubs led to the approval of the following minimum salary structure:
Ghana Premier League: GHS 1,500 (net) per month
Division One League: GHS 700 (net) per month
Women’s Premier League: GHS 700 (net) per month
These new salary thresholds will apply to all contracts signed during the next registration window. For players already under existing contracts, the minimum wages will take effect from the 2026/2027 league season.
Commenting on the development, the GFA emphasized that the initiative demonstrates its unwavering commitment to improving player welfare and strengthening the domestic football ecosystem.
“This decision reflects our dedication to protecting the welfare of our footballers and ensuring they are rewarded fairly for their talent and hard work. By introducing minimum salaries, we are not only improving conditions for players but also raising the overall standards and value of Ghanaian football.”
