The Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee has taken action against Berekum Chelsea head coach Samuel Boadu and five of his players following their misconduct during the tense MTN FA Cup semi-final clash against Asante Kotoko at the TNA Park in Tarkwa.
In a passionate match that ended in a narrow 1:0 victory for Kotoko, emotions ran high after the final whistle, resulting in heated exchanges with the match officials. Coach Samuel Boadu and Mizack Afriyie, Stephen Amankona, Zakaria Fuseini, and Seidu Mohammed were found guilty of unsporting behaviour that breached both the GFA Disciplinary Code and the Premier League Regulations.
According to a statement issued by the GFA on May 13, the individuals approached the officials in an “aggressive, angry, and fierce manner” that was deemed disrespectful and contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play. The actions of the coach and players were considered damaging to the integrity of the game, leading to a disciplinary hearing where the Committee reviewed their conduct in detail.
Despite the intensity of the moment, the GFA emphasized the need to uphold professionalism and respect in such competitive environments.

Each of the six individuals has been fined GHS 1,000 for their involvement, though the Disciplinary Committee has chosen to suspend the fines for a period of six months. This gesture, though firm, offers a second chance, reflecting the GFA’s willingness to encourage reform and good behaviour going forward. Should the coach and players maintain discipline over the next half-year, they will not have to pay the fines, turning this disciplinary moment into an opportunity for growth and learning.
This decision by the GFA sends a clear message while still leaving room for redemption. It’s a reminder that passion must be balanced with respect, even in the heat of competition. The football community will no doubt be watching closely, hopeful that this marks a turning point for Berekum Chelsea as they continue their journey in Ghanaian football with greater maturity and focus.
Asante Kotoko have since secured a spot in the MTN FA Cup final, where they will face Golden Kick FC.
