George Opare-Addo: Minister denies awarding contract for National Service payment platform

George Opare-Addo, the Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, has refuted reports that his ministry had given a contract to run the National Service Scheme (NSS) payment website.

The minister denied the accusation in a post on X (previously Twitter), calling it unfounded. “Where this is coming from is unknown to me. To the best of my knowledge, no contracts of any kind have been awarded. I implore @mensaduncan or his group to present any evidence to the contrary. “This cannot be tolerated!” he said.

Following a social media post that claimed the ministry had given Hubtel the contract for the payment platform, he responded.

Felix Gyamfi was transferred to the Ministry of Finance as the National Service Authority’s (NSA) Acting Director-General. The reassignment has been made without an official explanation.

The Ministry of Youth Development and the NSA Acting Director General may have disagreed over the software that the NSA was using, according to some reports.

According to the social media post, Gyamfi’s insistence on sticking with the current service providers rather than moving to a new system was the reason behind the purported reassignment.

Delays in posting new national personnel for 2025 coincide with the dispute. An assessment of the scheme’s web site has been blamed for the delays, raising concerns about a disagreement between the supervisory ministry and the authority about whether to switch to a new platform or keep the current software.

Gyamfi, who had been in office for just seven months, has now been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance. No official explanation has been given for his transfer.
