In the Western Region, eleven people have been taken into custody by the Western Central Regional Police Command for engaging in illegal mining near the Bonsa river bank.
Seven Ghanaians and four Chinese were among the accused who were taken into custody on March 31, 2025, as a result of persistent intelligence-led operations against illegal mining operations.

Six suspects were arrested at Wassa Agona: Nuang Shichuan, Huang Xinbao, Douglas Ayambilla, Elvis Aborta, Michael Tettey Komlorm, and Ibrahim Dauda. Five suspects, Wei Qinwei, Yao Yongji, Nsoh Oto, Agologo, Kwadwo George, Sergio, Emmanuel Van, and Atta, were arrested at a location in Bonsa.
All of the accused are being held and will appear in court to answer for their crimes.

“We want to reassure the public, particularly communities within the Western Central Regional Police Command, that the Ghana Police Service is still dedicated to combating crime and maintaining security, law, and order in the nation,” the police said in a statement.
