DCE Orders Registration of Excavators to Combat Illegal Mining in Ellembelle
The District Chief Executive of Ellembelle, Hon. Joseph Agyekum, has directed that all excavators in the district be tracked, compiled, and registered with the assembly. This move aims to curb the rampant use of excavators in illegal mining activities.
This directive was issued in a meeting he had with Divisional police commander.
Registration Forms will be designed to gather information on ownership, purpose, use location, and destination of excavators.
Forms will be monitored and retrieved weekly.
Identification Stickers will Issued to registered excavators.
Accordingly The police have been tasked to provide full support for the exercise.
Police and inspectors will visit locations where excavators are found. Barriers are to be mounted at Ankobra and Salma, the main entry points into the district.
The exercise seeks to regulate the use of excavators and prevent their involvement in illegal mining activities.
This initiative is expected to promote responsible mining practices and support environmental conservation in the district.
This task is scheduled to be commence from Monday, 12th May, 2025. These measures also form part of the District Chief Executive’s broader goals and strategies to reverse the tide of the illegal mining menace that plagued the district in the last 8 years under the previous administration.
