The nationwide strike that was planned for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, has been suspended by commercial transport providers.
The recently implemented GHC1 charge on petroleum goods was the reason behind the driver unions’ intention to stop providing their services. But after meeting with Ministry of Transport officials, the unions decided to put the action on hold.
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union’s (GPRTU) Deputy Public Relations Officer, Samuel Amoah, claims that the government promised them that the fee would not result in higher gasoline costs.
“What we have to do now is to monitor the situation to see if, by September, there will be any changes. If nothing changes, then it means we do not have a case.
“But if prices go up, it would increase our operational costs—and that’s when we will reconsider our decision. That is why we decided to suspend the strike. We have officially called it off,” Amoah explained.
