In the Subri Forest Reserve near Benso in the Western Region, the Forestry Commission’s Rapid Response team raided an illegal mining camp known as a galamsey camp and apprehended four armed miners.
All of the suspects, who are from Ghana, were discovered mining in a forest that is a Globally Significant Biodiversity Area.
Three excavators were set on fire, five pump action guns, and 77 rounds of ammunition were taken by the group during the operation.

Additional objects discovered at the location have been turned over to the Takoradi police for further investigation.
Shadrack Yowson, Emmanuel Adawusu, Innussah Yussif, and Issah Seidu are the suspects; it is thought that these individuals received help from powerful people for their illegal mining operations, which severely damaged the forest in an effort to find gold.

In the Takoradi Forest District, the raid is a component of a coordinated quick response operation. Significant parts of Ghana’s forest reserves have been severely degraded by rising illegal mining activity.
