According to information given by the British High Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced changes to the UK’s immigration and visa procedures.
All existing physical visa documents will be completely replaced by Electronic Visas (E-Visas) in the UK as of January 1, 2025.
Victor N. A. Adamah, Acting Director for the Ministry’s Information and Public Affairs Bureau, signed an advisory on November 4 that included this information.
As a result of this transition, Visas stamped in passports, Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC), which are now used to prove immigration status in the UK, will no longer be accepted after December 31, 2024.
The Ministry recommends that anyone who intends to spend more than six months in the UK in the upcoming year apply for an E-Visa.
Since all BRP cards are scheduled to expire at the end of this year, this update also applies to anyone who already hold valid BRPs, including rights to live, work, or study in the UK.
To prevent issues while returning to the UK in the new year, the Ministry strongly advises anyone going abroad during the holidays to obtain E-Visa approval before December 31, 2024.
For comprehensive instructions on applying for an E-Visa, the Ministry recommends contacting UK immigration officials or visiting the official website of the British High Commission. It also advised all impacted individuals to take the appropriate actions to comply with these amended requirements.
