The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has ingeminated the party’s decision not to sign any election peace pact if six conditions the party laid down are not met.
Countering to the National Peace Council’s resolve to persuade the NDC to commit to a peace pact ahead of the December, 7 elections, the chairman used the French phrase “Premier gaou n’est pas gaou” which translates as “first fool is not a fool”, indicating the party will not be deceived again.
The Chairman General whiles speaking to residents of Amanase in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern region said that the previous peace pact the party signed exposed its members to unlawful killings after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government failed to stick to the orders around the pact.
“We will not allow that to happen again. The testicles of a fool is not crushed twice, we are now wild awake.
“We need peace in the country but there cannot be peace without justice. In every situation, we know that first fool is not a fool which translates into French “premier gaou n’est pas gaou”, he stated.
The National Peace Council has expressed the hope that the NDC will eventually sign the peace accord for this year’s election.
In the view of the Council, the party has not categorically refused to sign the document although it has raised valid concerns that would be looked at.
