Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have successfully contained a major fire that broke out at Kantamanto Tazani Lane near Ecobank in Accra in the early hours of Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
The first fire appliance reached the scene eleven minutes later, at 1:42 a.m., after the GNFS received a distress call at 1:31 a.m. Seven fire engines and a turntable ladder were sent out from the fire stations in the Circle, Industrial Area, Accra Regional Headquarters, Madina, and Legon.
Two appliances from the National Headquarters also provided assistance. The fire, which destroyed a number of business buildings, was contained at 4:49 a.m. following almost three hours of fierce fighting.
The Greater Accra Regional Commander, the Director of Operations, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, the acting chief fire officer, and other senior officers attended the area to assess the situation and offer operational support.
Firefighting efforts are still ongoing to make sure the fire is totally put out, and no injuries have been recorded as of yet. It is anticipated that investigations will identify the fire’s cause.
