EXCLUSIVE: GFA Sets Minimum Salary for League Players

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has directed that no player in the Ghana Premier League should earn less than GH¢1,500 per month starting from the 2025/26 season.

The move, agreed in partnership with the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), is part of efforts to improve player welfare and raise professional standards in domestic football.

The directive also extends to other leagues, with Division One League and Women’s Premier League players set to receive a minimum of GH¢700 monthly.

To enforce this policy, the GFA has introduced a standardized player contract to ensure clubs comply with the new salary structure.

This initiative is seen as a major step toward making Ghanaian football more attractive and competitive. By guaranteeing better wages, the GFA hopes to retain talent, motivate players, and strengthen the overall quality of the league, giving footballers a stronger foundation to build their careers.
