The High Court in Accra held a hearing on Friday, May 2, 2025, and remanded Kwabena Adu-Boahen, the former head of the National Signals Bureau, into detention for seven days.
The decision was made when Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine asked the court to remand the defendant, claiming that Adu-Boahen had tried to obstruct a crucial prosecution witness in the ongoing case of alleged theft.
The claim was vigorously contested by defense attorney Samuel Atta Akyea, who questioned the reliability of the intelligence as well as his client’s capacity to sway the witness.
In order to assess the intelligence evidence in-camera before rendering a final conclusion, the sitting judge first postponed the decision.

The court ruled that Adu-Boahen should be detained for a week until additional evaluations are conducted after hearing arguments and examining preliminary evidence.
In court, Dr. Ayine also revealed that Ghana Water Limited is conducting independent investigations into Adu-Boahen, raising the possibility that the accused would be subject to more legal scrutiny in the weeks to come.
On Friday, May 9, 2025, Adu-Boahen is scheduled to make another court appearance.
