The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asunafo South, Hon. Eric Opoku, has rewarded National Democratic Congress (NDC) branch executives in the constituency with motorbikes in recognition of their dedication, selflessness and instrumental contributions to the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
The gesture represents an expression of appreciation for the grassroots operatives whose relentless mobilisation, door-to-door canvassing and community-level engagements helped consolidate the NDC’s electoral fortunes during the December 2024 polls.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Hon. Eric Opoku extolled their perseverance and unwavering allegiance to the party, commending their painstaking efforts to galvanise voter support for President John Dramani Mahama and secure his own parliamentary mandate in Asunafo South.
He emphasised that the party’s electoral success was bolstered by the tenacity of its grassroots structures, whose members traversed communities and engaged voters despite considerable logistical constraints.
Recounting the demanding circumstances that characterised the electioneering campaign, the minister highlighted the considerable sacrifices made by branch executives in their pursuit of electoral victory.
He observed that while some executives depended on bicycles and others trekked considerable distances between communities to canvass for votes, political candidates sometimes travelled in the relative comfort of V8 vehicles.
The contrast, he suggested, epitomised the disparities in campaign resources and emphasised the extraordinary commitment of grassroots activists who remained resolute in their mission despite the difficulties confronting them.
Hon. Eric Opoku expressed profound gratitude to the executives for their steadfast support, crediting their mobilisation efforts as an important component of the NDC’s victories at both the presidential and parliamentary levels.
He further disclosed that the motorbikes had been duly registered and licensed in the individual names of the beneficiaries, affirming their ownership of the machines.

Nevertheless, he cautioned the recipients against disposing of the motorbikes, urging them to preserve the assets and utilise them productively to facilitate their daily activities and community engagements.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation to the minister for acknowledging their contributions and rewarding their sacrifices during the 2024 electoral contest.
Reflecting on the campaign, they recounted the arduous journeys, extensive community engagements and logistical difficulties they encountered while mobilising support for the NDC.
They described the donation as a gratifying gesture of recognition, expressing satisfaction that their commitment to the party’s electoral fortunes had received tangible acknowledgement.

The beneficiaries also pledged to maintain the motorbikes diligently and honour the minister’s admonition against selling them.
Beyond expressing gratitude, they reaffirmed their commitment to working with Hon. Eric Opoku and supporting his political aspirations, including his publicly expressed ambition to become the NDC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The gesture brings into focus the indispensable contribution of grassroots party executives to electoral mobilisation, highlighting the sacrifices of local operatives whose sustained engagement with voters can prove consequential in determining political outcomes.
